JLYA Nomination Process

The partner school districts select qualified young adults each year. Each chooses one winner per year except Bath, Corning, and Hornell School Districts, as they can each choose two Winners. The young adult must be 16-21 years of age, a resident of Steuben County OR currently enrolled in a GST BOCES School, be often overlooked, overcome obstacles and exhibit a desire to succeed.

The selection process in each district will be accomplished by an ad-hoc committee that does not include relatives. It is up to the district to select one individual based on the information supplied on the nomination form. There is no limit to the number of nominations the committee may receive.

The nominee may or may not be enrolled in the listed partner school district, but must meet the above qualifications. If a nominee is a Steuben County young adult who is home-schooled, in college, working, etc then they may be in this category.

If a nominee is qualified, AND a resident of Steuben County, the nomination form should be sent to the closest partner school district.

All selections will be made by the partner school districts and those decisions are final.

The Jack Lisi Youth Award Board of Directors wants to let you know that the Jack Lisi Award nominations and disbursements are now handled by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc. The Community Foundation is a trusted nonprofit organization based in Horseheads, NY with a history of administering similar awards, scholarships, and grant programs in our area.

We believe this transition will help the Jack Lisi Youth Award Board of Directors focus on celebrating our recipients and fundraising efforts to continue this program for many years to come! Through transferring the award to the Community Foundation, students and JLYA nominators will continue to receive the same individualized care and support you’re used to.

With the transition to the Community Foundation, we will utilize the same software the Community Foundation utilizes for their scholarship program. Therefore, your nominations and selections will be made within the online portal.
